Bank account for a holding company abroad
A holding company owns shareholdings, receives dividends and finances its subsidiaries. These guides explain, jurisdiction by jurisdiction, how to open and run its bank account.
Enhanced due diligence
For a holding, the bank traces the whole ownership chain up to natural persons and asks for the group chart, subsidiaries’ accounts and the source of contributed funds. Structures with no real activity or local directors receive particular scrutiny.
Company-formation and corporate-service providers can help prepare the file, but the opening decision remains the bank’s.
Tax and transparency
Controlled-foreign-company rules, automatic exchange of information and beneficial-ownership registers strongly limit the tax interest of a holding without substance. Have the project checked by a tax adviser in your country of residence.
