Wealth management and private banking abroad

Diversifying assets in another jurisdiction usually goes through a private bank or an independent manager. These guides present the financial centres and their entry conditions.

How a private bank works

A private bank offers a multi-currency account, securities custody, discretionary or advisory mandates and sometimes portfolio-backed lending. A minimum amount to invest is generally required, and the file includes detailed evidence of the source of wealth.

The relationship relies on a dedicated banker, who assesses your risk profile and goals before recommending any investment.

Compliance and reporting

Banking secrecy no longer applies to foreign tax residents in most centres: accounts are automatically reported to the tax authority of the country of residence. The holder must also declare the account, and income is taxed under the rules of their country.
